The last month of Genius Hour will most likely be spent researching our topic and preparing a final video to show the school seeing as how the idea of a speaker fell through. My partners and I didn't meet our original goal due to circumstances that were out of our control, but we did accomplish a lot and have learned some valuable lessons throughout the Genius Hour Project. I don't think we need any more help from Mrs. Sutton or the school, because the final video will be completed and shown soon which will finish out the project year. Even though things didn't completely go as planned, I believe our GHP was a success and hopefully impacted a few lives.

Blog Post #9: Recently, many of you have noticed several new "views" to your Weebly pages. How does this change/not change the way you feel about the content on your page? Explain. Then express how you plan to both improve your page and further the work on your Genius Hour Project in the weeks to come. The amount of viewers on my Weebly page always makes me curious to if it's spreading/who is viewing it, and it always makes me want to have helpful content on my page. I do my best to make my page seem professional - in a sense that people find the information and resources they need in order to make an impact. I plan to continue to add content to my Weebly so that the finished product is informative and intriguing. In the weeks ahead, my group will focus on talking to all the individuals we need to, and to plan the final speech/presentation on our topic. No matter what comes out of this, hopefully it will be a help to someone and will turn out well.
Read the article "How Geniuses Think." Respond to the following: Describe the author's interpretation of Genius and how it differs from conventional definitions of Genius. What are the shared strategies of geniuses? How does your Genius Hour project encourage you to use some of these strategies? To the author, it appears that genius is different. Genius is creative and doing their best at things. Often times when people think of genius, they think of good grades and test scores and a high IQ. This article challenges that perspective and truly shows that genius comes in all forms, and means different things to different people. I agree with the author of the article because I believe the idea of "genius" doesn't have to fit in some little box; it is simply a way of thinking that helps one accomplish more from a more creative standpoint.
How did you work over the last two weeks to address the five step plan you laid out in Blog Post #6? If you haven’t made progress, explain why. Be accountable. Explain how you will make the progress you need to make.Over the last few weeks, my partners and I have been in close contact with our presenter as well as our guidance counselor, Mrs. Harry. This is part of our five step plan and we will continue it over the next few weeks. I feel that we are making progress, and scheduling is a crucial part of the process. In the coming weeks we will have more meeting and cover topics and ideas from everyone involved.
What is your 5 step plan to meet your Genius Hour Goal by May 6th?1.) Our first goal from here on out is to meet with Mrs. Harry, whom will be the first step in okaying the idea to bring in a speaker and making an event out of our project.
2.) After meeting with Mrs. Harry, the speaker we have secured will come to the school to meet with us about the presentation idea and to work out any kinks in the planning process. 3.) After meeting with those two ladies, it will be late February and my group will begin to talk to the principals, superintendents, school board members, etc. to make sure all of this will work out and to ensure that we can use class time for this purpose. 4.) If all of the above people agree and the event/presentation is a for sure go, we will set a date, make flyers, and try our best to advertise in any way we can; possibly even bringing in the local news. 5.) The last step to ensuring our Genius Hour makes an impact is to actually bring the speaker here, finishing up the project and page, and to save lives while making headlines. (: Which aspect of your Genius Hour Project do you enjoy most? Which aspect do you enjoy least?I enjoy that during the process of my Genius Hour Project I am building my education on Mental Health Awareness and becoming an overall more informed citizen. I have enjoyed planning and preparing the various aspects of the topic, and doing my best to help make a difference through knowledge. What I have enjoyed the least was the responsibility and stress that comes along with the project, and the stress of wanting to make my project great. Overall, I have enjoyed Genius Hour but I still have a lot of work to do.
After watching Ken Robinson's TED Talk about education, express your thoughts on how his views do/do not relate to the concept of Genius Hour. What about Ken Robinson's views do you agree/disagree with? Ken Robinson's views do in fact relate to genius hour, because he wants to make positive changes in the world and that's what genius hour is really about; making things better through views and ideas. I agree with many of his views about education, especially on the topic of how things should be more individualized, and how there's such pressure. From a young age, information about required classes, future career choices, college plans, etc. are stuffed down children's throats, and it is simply not right. There is too much of an emphasis at this young of an age, and Ken Robinson had some very agreeable points.
Now that you have taken part in Genius Hour for a marking period, how can you relate to the article? Do you agree/disagree with the info in the article? Do you have anything new to add to the discussion? The article is understandable in a number of ways, mostly in the way the teachers went about the project. It is a time each week dedicated to researching and creating our own ideas in order to make a difference. I somewhat agree with the info in the article, except in our class the ideas are a bit different because the people interviewed in the story were much younger. The only thing I would have to add is that I believe the Genius Hour/20 time idea is a great way to get students to interact and make an impact. I learned in this article that this project can really vary- from all ages and ideas. This project can make a difference in a multitude of ways and is fun at the same time.
Now that your Genius Hour Project is underway, what do you predict will be your biggest obstacle? How do you intend to overcome that obstacle?I predict that my biggest obstacle over the course of this process will be the planning and organization of the purpose and how things will turn out with the final touches. I would like to make a difference in the area and maybe even more wide scale than that, so that will be an obstacle in itself. I will do my best to overcome the obstacles by strategically spacing out the research portion of the project and by "casting the net wide" by contacting many and doing my best with creative thinking.
Describe what your Genius Hour Project would look like if you could make it the very best it could be.If I had any option or resource available for my project, I would go very large scale and create an idea that would be hard to forget about. I plan to do this anyways, but if I had unlimited financial resources or the option to involve someone big, I know that this project would really take off. If I could make it the very best it could be, I would have limitless amounts of information and contacts for those in need. I would make and market shirts or maybe even a whole brand based on this idea, and my website would feature anything from a store to links for donation. I will speak about these issues on a large scale, especially in the public school systems, to spread awareness and to make it known that these are real issues that one should not be ashamed of. I want to provide hope, as well as real factual information available to all, in both public and confidential ways. I know I can make a difference in this community, and can even go as far as starting a club or bringing in an inspirational speaker to the area. Ideas are flowing and I have a few different creative plans to spread awareness about mental illness!
